The Lord is my Portion

God is great and merciful!

When my heart was embittered
And I was pierced within,
Then I was senseless and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
With Your counsel You will guide me,
And afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and
my portion forever.
For, behold, those who are far from You
will perish;
You have destroyed all those who are
unfaithful to You.
But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.
-Ps. 73:21-28

I love the Lord! He is good to me!

Remember my affliction and my
wandering, the wormwood and
bitterness.
Surely my soul remembers
And is bowed down within me.
This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed
never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
"The Lord is my portion" says my soul,
"Therefore I have hope in Him."
The Lord is good to those who wait for
Him,
To the person who seeks Him.
It is good that he waits silently
For the salvation of the Lord.
It is good for a man that he should bear
the yoke in his youth.
Let him sit alone and be silent
Since He has laid it on him.
Let him put his mouth in the dust,
Perhaps there is hope.
Let him give his cheek to the smitter,
Let him be filled with reproach.
For the Lord will not reject forever,
For if He causes grief,
Then He will have compassion
According to His abundant
lovingkindness.
-Lam. 3: 19-32

The Second Helvetic Confession of the Protestant Reformation says, "The preaching of the Word of God is the Word of God"... the humility implicit in such a confession is that we have nothing of importance, merit, or authority to say comparable to what God has said.
